1 Start the computer in Command Prompt Mode. Step2 Type “FDISK.” The partition window will appear with menu options. Step3 Enter 5 if you’re partitioning a second drive, and select the drive; otherwise, skip to the next step. Step4 Enter 1 (Create DOS Partition or Logical DOS Drive). Step5 Enter 2 (Create Extended DOS) to create a partition. Step6 Enter N when the program asks if you want to use the maximum available size. Step7 Designate the amount of disk space to allocate to the second partition (the partition will be assigned the next drive letter). Step8 Type a name for the new partition and press Enter. The partition menu will appear. Step9 Repeat steps 5 through 8 to create additional partitions. Step10 Press Esc to exit the partition command.

No you don’t need any special software just windows XP For example – Pretend you have a 80GB hard drive and you want to make it into 2 partitions of 40 and 40, put the hard drive into your computer as a secondary Go to my computer —->Control panel——> Performance and maintenance—–>Administrative tools——>computer managment and under storage click on disk managment and you can manually delete the partition, and re-format it again to what you want it to be Hope this helps
