How can I obtain a general contractor or homebuilder license?

A. Georgia does not currently require a state license for general or residential contracting. However, a state license will be required beginning July 1st 2007. If you are a general or residential contractor, you should contact the local government where you will be working. You may find additional information on state licensing for general and residential contractors at http://www.sos.state.ga.us/plb/contractors/default.htm. Also, contact the Secretary of States First Stop Business Information Center. If you contract for work from any of the trades listed above, you must hold the appropriate license from the Construction Industry Licensing Board.
