How can I move into professional Ten Pin Bowling?
No, you don’t need more 900 series. In fact, there have been only a handful of sanctioned 900s in history, about 15 now. Almost none of them have had any kind of professional career, except Glenn Allison, the first 900 shooter, who never got his 900 approved on the basis of lane conditions. There is still debate about that one today. So, all those 300s and 800s in league, they help average-wise, but they are not part of the criteria for membership in the PBA. Actually, almost nothing you do in your regular league on normal house patterns or prepare you for bowling on tougher conditions in longer formats (what many people call “real” bowling). Therefore, what you have to do is look around your area and FIND tougher conditions and good bowlers. THAT’s what will prepare you. One such program is the leagues called “PBA Experience” leagues. They bowl on PBA conditions, the same ones the pros use. Do well on that, and you might have a decent chance at doing decently in an actual tournament.
