How can I maximise the control of black-grass in oilseed rape?

Where possible, leave stubble fallow to allow black-grass to germinate. Treat with glyphosate to eradicate any plants that appear. Apply Treflan* (trifluralin) as a pre-drilling incorporated treatment. Use Kerb* Flo, Kerb 50W, Menace* 80EDF, Precis* or Quaver* Flo (propyzamide) as a post-emergence application, once the oilseed rape has three true leaves. Propyzamide is a residual herbicide absorbed by plant roots. Application should be made to firm, moist soils with a fine tilth. Best control is achieved by treating small black-grass plants, before they begin to tiller. Where conditions are still relatively warm, or where the population is known to contain resistant black-grass plants, always apply the highest recommended dose of propyzamide.
