How can I ‘manage’ or change the settings of my WiFi modem/router?

There are typically two ways to manager your WiFi modem/router, via a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox, or via software that was supplied with your WiFi modem/router. The latter option is preferable. If you lost the CD that came with your WiFi modem/router, go the manufacturer’s web site were you can most likely download the software for your specific device. To manager your WiFi access with a web browser (you must use the computer that has a physical wired connection to the router). You will type in the IP address in the address bar of your browser. The address will be found in your router’s documentation. Typical addresses are: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.123.254 or 192.168.2.1. Thus, instead of typing www.something.com, you will type 192.168.1.1. You will also need the user name and password (which should also be in the documentation). Be extremely careful when changing settings as this could make your WiFi modem/router work incorrectly or not at all.
