How can I make the text on grayed-out buttons more legible?

On some Unix machines, the color contrast between the text and button colors on a grayed-out button is very low. For machines running the Common Desktop Environment (CDE) you can fix this by Select the style manager (on CDE bar). Select Color. Select a different palette or edit colors manually.
