Beginning from scratch, in the “image” menu, select mode and change the color image to greyscale. Then, convert it, again, to bitmap. Choose 50% threshold. This eliminates all the greay and changes every thing to, either black or white. Look for areas of white, completely surrounded by black. When you, later, cut your stencil, you will lose these. If these “islands” of white are important, you need to find a way to connect them with other white areas. Using your eraser tool, with a hard edged brush, “draw” a connecting white line from the “island” to another white section. You will need some drawing skill to make the white, connecting, line look natural. When ready, this is what you can print out to make a stencil. Either, print this out on some kind of heavier stock paper, or, print it out on regular paper, then, trace it out on cardboard stock.
