How can i make my own hamster cage?
HINT: I don’t suggest making one out of wood, because wood soaks up urine and other bodily fluids/smells, will stain, and smell HORRIBLE. That doesn’t come out, even after washing. It also soaks up water from their water drips and can mold. If you’re going to build your own, I suggest using something pre-made, like a fish or reptile aquarium, and building over that. Hamsters are small creatures that can, and will, escape, so something fine (and durable, since they chew and scratch) will be needed for a barrier. Chicken wire WON’T WORK, so don’t attempt that. Please. The hamster will either escape or get stuck in the wire, seriously injuring itself. You can make a larger “pen”-type, out of a child’s plastic swimming pool and a wire cage, but those almost always have an open top. This is dangerous for the hamster, as it may climb out or be attacked by something. This type of cage is only good for playtime, not a full-time cage.
