How can I make an azimuth meter?

There are so many different kinds of mounts out there that it is impossible to say whether or not yours could be modified. I will say this: A good mount will cost as much or more than a good telescope. My astronomy club just purchased a Losmandy ‘Titan’ German Equitorial Mount for around $5k On the other end of the spectrum, you could simply make your own alt/az mount out of free plans found on the internet, and include an azimuth setting circle. But really, amateur astronomers very *rarely* use setting circles. Typically we’ll starhop from known locations. You may be better off getting a good sight like a Telrad.
