Give your doe a proper nest box about 3 – 4 inches longer and wider than her. Put the proper nesting materials in it and your doe will make her own nest. Personally, I like to put down 1 inch of pine or aspen shavings in the bottom to help soak up pee. I sometimes put a 1/2 x 1/2 wire mesh over that if the edges are not sharp. That keeps the doe from digging it up and makes cleaning easier. I stuff the box pretty darn full with the hay that she is eating. Then I shove my fist into it to make a well for her to make her nest. That usually gives the doe the idea and if the nest box is not given too early, she usually will not destroy it or use it for a toilet. I give the nest box on day 27. Some begin building their nest (rearranging hay and pulling fur) right away, all usually explore but, some don’t pull fur until just before or even after they kindle.
