How can i link government expenses to firemen/policemen not getting enough money for there jobs?
MPs are able to take the money because they themselves define what they can and can’t claim on expenses. This leads to obvious abuses, where any claim can be justified by complying with arbitrary rules, despite clearly being inappropriate, illegal or immoral. In the grand scheme of things, MPs expenses are actually pretty small beer and don’t really affect things like the number of police, nurses, firemen, etc. Instead, I suggest you look at what the British Government actually spends its £671 billion budget on here: http://www.debtbombshell.com/public-spending.htm As you can see, public spending is dominated by benefits and welfare payments – some £195 billion in all this year. You could argue that these payments are an attempt to buy the votes of people, instead of investing the money in good public services and protection, like policemen and firemen. The Government also borrows extreme amounts of money each year, which we pay interest on. Next year that interest is going to cost us
