How can I keep Zoysia out of my perennial bed?
This common, frustrating problem, has no easy answer. Permanent solutions involve ditching around the periphery of the beds or installation of deep, physical barriers. Otherwise, it’s back to vigilant hand removal of the invading grass. Question: Would you recommend planting Eastern Hemlocks to form a landscape screen in an area that doesn’t receive much sun? Answer: Eastern hemlock, Tsuga canadensis, is widely used for various landscape purposes including screens. This plant, with proper annual pruning, makes one of the best evergreen hedges, and unlike most conifers, it tolerates shade pretty well. Hemlocks require acid, well-drained soils, and adequate moisture. They do not tolerate drying winds or drought.
