How can i keep my turkey moist if cooked in oven on low?
The longer a turkey cooks, the more it will dry out. It is best not to cook a turkey on low… but if you absolutely must, like if your oven is broken, try brining it. Brine is a liquid overnight soak before cooking– it’s made of water/broth + salt + seasonings + ice. Just google “turkey brine” you will get thousands of recipes. It is the single best way to get juice in the bird because science is working for you– through osmosis, on a cellular level. If you cook your bird on low, don’t baste it… it will just let what little heat is in the oven out every time you open the door, and increase the cooking time even further. Besides, basting doesn’t really get juice into the bird. The skin is made to keep juice out. Basting can flavor the skin a bit, but not enough to mask the dry meat beneath it so it is not worth it. There are other ways to flavor the skin.
