How can I introduce Fairtrade products into the college bar/buttery/coffee shop?
For Fairtrade foods and ingredients, it’s better to talk to the catering manager. From experience they’re generally willing to talk but bear in mind that the higher cost of most Fairtrade products is always an issue. Installing Fairtrade vending machines may be outside the remit of the catering manager as it’s probable that the JCR has control — in which case talk to the JCR president. In the following section are a list of possible suppliers for Fairtrade products; a more comprehensive list is being generated after consultations with catering managers at various colleges; don’t hold your breath just yet! In the meantime, refer to the list of Fairtrade suppliers — perhaps print out a copy to give to your catering manager to find out if what they provide suits your college’s needs.
