How can i introduce an attachment theory to my essay?
Attachment theory is a bit vague. There are several explanations within attachment theory. One of which is Learning theory. This involves two parts Classical Conditioning and Operant Conditioning. Classical Conditioning is about learning associations with different things in our environment. Operant conditioning in the care industry usually involves negative reinforcement, for example, the baby cries so the carer feeds it. Another explanation of attachment in attachment theory was developed by Bowlby in 1951. It’s known as the Evolutionary Approach. He argued that infants have a biological need to attach to their primary caregiver (in this case the young carer). He argued that this attachment acts as a ‘template’ for future relationships and provides a ‘safe base’ to explore the environment.
