How can I increase my lung capacity and running speed?
I have been running in the military every day for the last 4 years, and believe me I know where you’re coming from. Even though I was in great shape when I first started running in the military I wasn’t a very good distance runner. After a year of running I was able to cut my two-mile time all the way down to 11 minutes, which I never thought I could do. Besides running long distances (5 miles or about an hour 5 days a week) the one drill that REALLY improved my lung capacity was running or jogging for about 1/4 mile then sprinting for about 100ft. You keep doing that for a whole run and after a few weeks of that you won’t believe the results you’ll get! Another easy way to do it is running along a road and just sprint for one gap between streetlights, and then jog for two gaps. However you do it, the mixture of sprinting when you’re running is what builds your lung capacity.
