How can I improve my efficiency as a freelancer?
I’m a freelancer and one thing I’ve noticed is that efficiency is everything. At my previous job, it didn’t matter whether I’d had an incredibly productive and successful month or if I’d spent the whole month slacking, taking time off, and doing nothing. My take-home pay was always the same. This has its advantages because it means you always know how much money you have to last the month. However, I wanted to become a freelancer because I knew I could make more money that way.
What I hadn’t accounted for, however, was how much efficiency would matter. In my current role as a freelance writer, if I don’t work, I don’t get paid. If I’m sick for a week, then that’s a whole week in which I’m not earning. Furthermore, the quicker I complete a project, the higher my pay is. For instance, if I get paid $100 for an article and I complete it in four hours, then I’m only earning $25 an hour. If I complete it in two hours, then I’m doubling my pay to $50 an hour.
Completing work quickly means you can take on more projects and increase your salary. That’s why I love freelancing. It was really difficult to land a pay rise at my last job and I had little control over it. If you want to earn more by becoming more efficient, then you need to look into automation. Think of your freelance operations like a business. The more you can automate, the more time and cost-efficient everything will be.
For instance, one of the best things I did for my career was invested in contract automation. I used to spend hours each week drawing up contracts for new clients but now it’s all done for me and I can use that time making money instead. You can find contract automation services on Aerofiler.
