How can I import photos from a Kodak EasyShare Z740 digital camera into my Apple iBook?
The Z740 is not on the list of supported iPhoto cameras supported as of the latest version, 6.0.5. This is why iPhoto won’t automatically detect and import from your camera. If you’re lucky, when you plug in the camera, OS X will mount it as a disk. If this is the case, you’ll be able to open the photos as files in iPhoto and import them that way; you may lose some metadata that the camera driver would normally return if it were a supported camera. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to use an SD card reader; such devices are usually available for less than $50, and can often read multiple memory card types. Apple’s online store recommends the LaCie Imatumi Media Reader for $30; I can’t permalink to an item on the Apple Store, but if you search for [SD card reader], it’s the first hit. Again, you’ll only need a separate reader (which would be useful for a wide variety of cameras) if OS X won’t mount your camera as a disk. Sources:
