Dell technical support has recommended that you should check your power options settings to ensure that the hard drive powers off when not in use. To do this, click Start → Control Panel. Click the Power Options icon. (If it is not visable, click the “Switch to Classic View” link in the top of the left frame of the window.) Make sure that you set a time limit for inactivity on the row that corresponds to “Turn off hard disks”. Click the OK button to save your settings.
