How can I have people connect to my server using a name, instead of my IP addr or hostname?
To get a completely custom name, you have to obtain your own domain name. If you don’t want to go through that, an easy and inexpensive solution is DynDNS. Using their service, you can get a custom name (such as carchat.dyndns.com), and have that name be updated with your most current IP address. This allows people with dynamic IP addresses to have an unchanging name that users can use to access their server. A completely free alternative to DynDNS is ml.org.
