How can I hang a decoration from the ceiling?
Purchase or borrow a stud locator. Find the ceiling joist in the area you want to hang your decoration and use an appropriate screw in anchor for the weight of your decoration. The hardware section in Home Depot is truly a remarkable place. The anchors vary from frail hooks to Lag bolts but they are all “rated” for load. Use an anchor that is rated for at least 50% more than your decorations weight to be sure it will be safe and last a long time. I absolutely refuse to use drywall anchors for anything over 3 or 4 pounds in a ceiling. Last resort, make friends with the local handyman. I have a lot of “friends” that arent afraid to call me when they need me and I make sure that I take advantage of their particular talents as well, when needed. Computers, pet sitting and taxes are covered for the rest of my life.
