How can I get unlocked cell phones?
No it’s not illegal but you will pay more. Buying an unlocked phone online is basically like paying full price for a phone from a carrier. If you are stuck in your current contract and you lose / break your phone sometimes they won’t let you get a new one so you can buy one online. Or if a different carrier has a phone you like but your current carrier doesn’t have it then that is another reason to buy unlocked phones. Unlocked GSM phones will only work on the GSM networks and the same goes for CDMA networks.
