How can I get rid of the blanket weed (green slime) in my pond?
Blanket weed consists of long thin strands of Algae, which clumps together, rather than just a green slime that covers surfaces. It can be controlled reasonably well, with the right approach. Firstly remove as much of it as possible by twirling it around a small pole, if this is possible. Deal with any nutrient leaks into your pool as Algae, like other plants, needs nutrients in order to grow. Consider adding some shade too, as this will reduce the light that it needs, even if it’s just floating decoration on your pond. I’ve used Cloverleaf’s ‘Blanket Answer’ product for a few years, it’s a natural mix of minerals and enzymes that destroy Blanket weed, and is safe for pond life, if you have it.
