How can i get over my back handspring fear?
I use to have this problem. What I did was I counted myself down. I said 3…2…1…Go. On go, I would either go for it, or I would start to. You already know that you can do it, so you are just nerving yourself out. Sometimes, giving yourself that deadline can make you do it more than just trying to throw it. If counting down doesn’t work, have your coach or one of the older gymnasts start by standing beside and resting their hand on your back, as though they were going to spot you. When you go, they pull their hand away and you do the back handspring yourself. If you can do this comfortable a few times, try having them simply stand there. If that works, then have them walk away and try it. Back handsprings can be scary, but after you get use to doing them alone, you’ll find it silly that you ever needed the comfort of the belt in the first place.
