How can I get my puppy used to the Halti collar?
The reason why your puppy is refusing to keep it on is because you have complete control over him and he is not used to it on his face. Firstly you should put it on and off in the house but do not take him outside with it on. When you put it on his face give him praise under the chin. Then take it off straight away do not give praise when it is off, because then he will see that he is getting reward whilst it is on his face and will realise that this is good thing and not bad at all. When he becomes use to you putting it on him and no longer struggles, start walking around the house with it on and giving him praise at the same time. When i say praise i mean a stroke under the chin and a calm authoritative voice, but not harsh. If you give him treats this will teach him to only obey you when the halti is on, as he is not stupid and will soon figure it out, If he does start to paw the halti give a very slight sharp jerk and keep doing this until he stops fighting the halti.
