How can i get my puppy to stop barking?

Try putting a soft cloth muzzle on him (you can get one at any pet store) each time he starts barking. Tell him, “No!” very firmly. Leave the muzzle on for 2-3 minutes. Then take it off, pet him, and make sure he knows you aren’t going to beat him, but that you’re trying to teach him. Every time he starts barking, put the muzzle back on and tell him no. Then repeat the process. It may take a few days, but he will eventually learn. You just have to be consistent and patient. The muzzle won’t hurt him, but smacking him will. I’ve done this with all of my dogs and it’s always worked.

To cure this bad habit of barking while you are away is to train your dog to stay quietly alone in a room. Start this training when someone will be at home all day. Put your dog in a room alone and shut the door. If he howls, stop him by scolding or a low growl from you. If the dog continues to bark, firmly command “be quiet” and lightly slap the dog under the chin with a loosely rolled newspaper. After an hour of good behavior, release the dog from the room and give praise. Then after about another hour repeat the procedure of putting the dog in the room alone. After awhile your dog will learn it can be alone. Barking while you are home…this occurs when a dog is kept too long in a fenced yard or on a chain. The dog becomes bored and barks at anything. To prevent this barking, walk your dog early in the morning and late at night and keep your dog in the house during the day. Put your pet in the yard only when it needs to go outside for relief and/or to scold him when he starts barkin
