Leave the leash out 24/7. No more pulling it out only for walks – she needs to see it to get used to it. Carry it around with you, pick it up and move it around – do it all without talking to her, looking at her, etc. Eventually she should just get used to it being around if it isn’t always coming at her. My dog’s leash is always hanging by the back or front door within plain sight – a normal, everyday thing. She is not afraid of it and she does not get excited to “see it.” When she no longer bolts at the sight of it and is calm enough when you walk past her, then start carrying it closer to her. Pet her while you hold it, hold it while she sits next to you. Gently grab at her collar then let go. Eventually, just clip it to her and count to five, then unclip and let her go. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. When you can clip it to her easily, it’s time to walk her around the house. Follow HER. Don’t jolt her, drag her, or tug her. Just walk.
