How can I get my 3 y/o to stop pooping his pants?

I would not make a big deal about it. It sounds like this is a control issue for him. Or it could be that he has a slight fear of the toilet drain? I would just not mention it, don’t let it become a huge deal, and give him some time. Just drop it for a week or two. I know that’s a tough thing to do when most three year olds are easily pooping in the potty, but your son isn’t most three your olds-he is YOUR three year old. After some time has passed without pressuring him about his poopie habits, ask him if he is maybe ready to give it another shot. If he says “no” then walk off & drop it. Shrug and don’t make a big deal. Ask him again in a couple of days. You could also sort of have some conversations with him about poop. Nothing heavy or guilt trippy-just general conversations that explain that pooping is normal, every one does it, they sue the potty and when he is ready he will too, etc. Chances are, though, if you give him the “power” over his poop, he will choose to use the potty.
