How can i get help with custody when i can not afford a lawer?
Some counties offer low cost legal help. However, I am sorry to say that you are unlikely to improve your custody situation without a lawyer. I would suggest borrowing money from a bank or from family/friends. In some cases, your ex may be asked to reimburse you for all or part of your legal fees. Also, many lawyers provide initial consultation (30-60 minutes) at no charge. They may, in that meeting, suggest low cost alternatives for you. You need to think hard about this. If you cannot afford a few hundred or a thousand dollars for legal advice, you might not be able to afford have a child in your house all or part-time.
Your son just not liking it there is not a good enough reason for custody to be changed. A court is not going to split siblings just because one is not liking the rules. He would have to be suffering abuse, poor grades, bad health or other such major issue for a custody change to be considered. IF there are any of these criteria going on, then you can contace legal aid in Alabama, but it is highly unlikely you will get help being from out of state. The more realistic thing for you to do is to talk to your ex about your son coming and living with you, and see if you can come to an agreement.
