You can try “Goof Off” found at any large hardware store but it may stain the fabric so test it on a spot under the cushion line. If it does stain you can try the freezer method. If it is a cushion cover remover it and freeze it in the freezer for about 5 mins. When the gum hardens wrinkle the fabric around to flake off the frozen gum you may have to do this many times. If it is part of the sofa use ice cubes to freeze the gum and pull it off after it hardens you’ll have to be quick and you may have to do this many times to lift it all. If you have enough loose fabric wrinkle it around to crumble the hardened gum out of the fabric. If the fabric is strong and durable you might be able to use dry ice to speed up the process but be careful don’t touch the dry ice with your bare hands. Another thing about dry ice is it can freeze your fabric solid enough to break its fibers so you have to be very gentle and careful.

I have heard that peanut butter will soften it and take it out, but have never tried it since I do not chew gum.

Get some dry ice from your grocery store. Wrap it up in a cloth and put it on the gum. It should freeze it and then you can pick it out. And don’t use peanut butter, it will leave an oil stain.

Goof off worked for a shirt I had gum all over and it doesn’t stain where peanut butter will. Available at most stores. http://www.goof-off.
