How can i get copies of previously filed tax returns?

If you paid somebody to do them for you, they are required to keep copies at least three years. They will probably charge you. You can order them from the IRS by downloading and filling out and faxing Form 4506. Each year costs $39 and does not include your state return. If all you need is the info that was actually on the forms but don’t care if it actually looks like the forms, you can get the info for free by asking the IRS for a transcript for that year. You do so by downloading, filling out and faxing Form 4506-T. It takes about 2 weeks. If you are in a bigger hurry, you can go to one of their offices and they will do it while you wait. It sounds like you have learned why you should save your tax returns for at least 3 years, or even better, 7 years.
