How can i get a urine sample from my dog???
An old Tupperware container would probably be the best choice. Make sure it is neither too large or deep since female dogs tend to squat low when urinating. Have a helper walk your dog on a short leash while you follow closely with the container. When she squats slide the container under her hind end. You may want to wear gloves since there is a chance they will be splashed. Try to catch the urine the morning you plan to visit the vet as the sample needs to be fresh. If you are unsuccessful the vet may be able to catch a sample when there for the appointment. So, if you don’t catch any then don’t allow her to wee-wee an hour before the appointment so her bladder will be full.
I know we had a cocker mix, and the vet wanted a sample. I was lucky, because my dog had a habit of peeing the SECOND her feet hit grass. With males, if he hikes, it might be more difficult. But, if you know there is a tree he will DEFINATELY potty on, and you know what height, you might try strapping some sort of “catch can” to it? Past that, you might call the vet’s office and see if they have any ideas! They’ve probably done this more than once!
