How can i get a urine sample from my dog???
I once had to collect a urine sample from one of our female dogs…I attached a small cup to the bottom of a long stick, and took her outside to go to the bathroom on a leash. As soon as she started to go, stick the cup underneath her – it’s relatively easy, since the cup is on a stick, so you don’t have to bend down and possibly spook her away.
Maybe use a plate or flat container with your female dog. I found that if you give them a pet or rub and talk to them while they are doing a wee, so they get used to you hanging about near them while they are going, then when you actually do try and catch the urine, they aren’t so startled. It worked pretty well with my dog, although he did seem very interested in the jar afterwards.
I had to do this recently for my Dobie girl Tori, when the vet requested a sample. At least he had the decency to give me a glove! When Tori had squatted to “get busy”, I got a funnel and placed it under her just after she had started and popped the tube end of the funnel into a container. Done very quickly ~ but I did get the strangest look from Tori, as she peered over her shoulder at me!
I did exactly that! ran around with the dog on a lead and every time he ****** his leg I tried to get a sample in a coffee jar while wearing a rubber glove. The dog got really paranoid and would not take a pee! Eventually I got some and a very upset dog! He kept giving me dirty looks for days. No idea how to get it from a female unless you strap a plastic bag over her hind regions and hope you catch some before she tears it off. Good Luck! (Try to do this when the neighbours are still asleep as they will think you are really weird.
