How can I get a traffic signal installed at a particular intersection?
To install a traffic signal, the intersection must first meet certain minimum criteria specified by Canadian Traffic Signal Procedure. First, an engineering study of the intersection must be performed. The Traffic engineer looks at things such as traffic volumes, pedestrian volumes, posted speed, collision history, road alignment (visibility), etc. The engineer’s investigation may provide alternate solutions if the study does not warrant a traffic signal, eg. a stop sign. These save the taxpayer unnecessary expense and can usually be acted upon more quickly. If the intersection does warrant a traffic signal, it will be installed as soon as funding permits.
