Unless, you left their employment under certain circumstances there is no way to insure it at this date. The employer usually has until January 31 to provide you with a copy of your W-2 (meaning postmarked by 1-31-09). Some companies will allow their employees and certain professionals access to this information online (this usually only saves the mailing time). The first major company I know about is supposed to be available on January 8th. But, this is a moot point…the IRS is not going to start processing tax returns until January 16th. So, if you get a copy of your W2 on the 8th and mail a return and the IRS receives it on the 9th…it will sit there until the 16th (electronic filing is the same..not processed until the 16th).
