How can I format a book for AMS using plain TeX?
Although we strongly recommend that you use a predefined AMS author package (see the author packages web page for monographs or for proceedings and collections), plain TeX may be used as long as the page dimensions match the specifications for the particular book series. The guidelines given here may not be sufficient. If you need more assistance, or you are preparing a manuscript for Graduate Studies in Math (GSM) or the Student Mathematical Library (STML), get in touch with AMS Technical Support. • When using plain TeX, place each chapter or article in a separate file, and run it through TeX by itself. • The following instructions are for a monograph. • Retrieve the file amsplainbk.tex from the AMS server. • The title will be formatted according to AMS monograph specifications, including the space above and below. • Start each chapter with this template, using the correct starting page number.
