How can I fix my Ariston Margherita 2000 washing machine?

When I set the machine program it works for 50 minutes of the wash cycle. It then comes to a hault. After a period of time approx 5 minutes the indicator lamp flashes 5 times slowly at intervals of about 10 seconds between each set of flashes. The machine does not advance from this.
