Unfortunately, without the authority from the Company in question, Customs will not discuss a VAT number with you. As someone else has suggested, ring the company, or try looking on their website or obtaining and invoice from them.

Just ring the company in question. They have to supply it. They usually state thier VAT number on all correspondence.

It should (must) be printed on the company’s stationary (Letterheads, Invoices etc.) If it isn’t then either the company is not VAT registered or I would contact their local VAT office.
