How can I file my PAST YEARS TAXES without paying a big penalty or going to jail?

A6… You are not going to jail unless you try to perpetrate a fraud of some sort with your tax returns. You may be forced to pay a fine and interest on past due balances but if you are owed a refund for any of the last three years you will get that refund. If you were entitled to a refund for a year beyond three years past, you will not get that refund but neither will you be charged a penalty or interest. The best way to file past years is to go to a good tax person and follow his/her instructions, but FILE your past tax returns NOW!!
