First, it will be helpful to create a separate group for the midplanes and set it so that the midplanes are automatically added to the group as they are created. 1. Use Group/Set to create the group. Call it “midplanes” for example. 2. Next, go to Group/Operations/Automatic Add (to active group). 3. Then, Geometry/Midsurface/Automatic. Do a Select All. 4. Select your Target thickness. This is a threshold value. Anything below this thickness will generate a midplane. 5. Set an appropriate target thickness and click OK. 6. Go to View/Select, Model Data: click on Active under Group (to display midplane group) 7. Geometry/Midsurface/Assign Mesh Attributes. 8. Drag box around midsurfaces and then click OK. 9. Select a material to assign. Then the surface is ready to meshed. Use Mesh Control/Default size, or whatever mesh control you prefer. Use Mesh/Geometry/Surface and drag box around midplane surfaces.
