Every pattern consists of a multiple plus a turning chain. The multiple is the number of chains required in the 1st row to achieve just one of the patterns created in the 2nd row. To increase or decrease a pattern, you must add or subtract from the multiple. The turning chain will stay the same no matter what. If the pattern you’re working from doesn’t state the multiple, you could post the first 2 to 4 rows here or email it to me and we could figure out what the multiple is. When sizing is important, such as here where you want it to fit a king size bed, you should do a small swatch to make sure that your tension, hook size, and yarn will match the pattern dimension.
