Gifts of jewellery and art valued at more than $1,000 require two independent appraisals, obtained by the donor, to confirm Fair Market Value for tax receipting purposes (per Canada Revenue Agency rules). For gifts under $1,000, one independent appraisal obtained by the donor will suffice.
