How can I cut my shih tzus hair using only scissors?
I preferred to use scissors with the ShihTzu’s I groomed. But, I must say that it can be a dangerous thing to do if you aren’t careful. I’ve heard of many dogs getting poked in the eye with scissors. They jerk and move suddenly, which can be devastating. You must be comfortable with the scissors and know what you are doing. I understand the money involved in taking the dog to the groomer, but it would be cheaper than a vet bill. It’s part of owning this type of breed. But, if you feel you can handle it, here is what I would do. My clients seemed to like a teddy bear look with the head rounded and clean around the eyes and mouth. I would start off by scissoring the “beard” under the chin to about an inch long. Then slowly work my way up the sides of the head to the ear. Do not cut her ears!
