How can I create a newsgroup without having to add the news server that it is located on?
This can be done by following the steps below (the [ficticious] alt.widget newsgroup on the [also fictictous] news.gizzmo.com news server is used as an example): 1. Select Configuration|Newsgroups from the main menu. 2. Click on the Add button. 3. Enter the name of the newsgroup into the “Search or Specify:” box. For example, enter alt.widget into the box. 4. Click on the Subscribe button. 5. Click on Close and then Close again. 6. Right-click on the newly created newsgroup icon and select Configuration from the little menu that pops up. 7. Click on the Advanced Options button. 8. Enable the “Override News Server” checkbox and enter the news server (where your new newsgroup is located) into the “NNTP Server:” box. For example, enter news.gizzmo.com into the box. Click on OK. 9. Click on OK again. 10. Click on the Close button.
