How can I correct severely discolored teeth caused by tetracycline?
Tetracycline is an antibiotic used to treat a number of illnesses. One of its major drawbacks is that it causes severe staining in teeth if it is used in growing children ages 3-14. These teeth have a gray, dark brown or sometimes a striped appearance to them. Such discolored teeth may not satisfactorily respond to whitening treatments. The only practical way of eliminating the staining is by covering it up by the placement of porcelain veneers or crowns.
