How can i connect ethernet crossover cable used to connect my laptop and PC?

I keep answering this question for people. Below is what I’ve written for others. If you don’t have a router/hub, you can use what’s called a crossover cable. It looks just like a regular Ethernet cable but has slightly different wiring. You would take this cable and connect the computers together through each computers Ethernet adapter. Then, go into you’re network connections (start, run, type ncpa.cpl , ok). Right-click on the proper connection and go to properties. Scroll in the small box until you see “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”; it will probably be at the bottom. Highlight it and click the properties button. In the properties box, click “Use the following IP address”. Under IP Address, type 192.168.1.100. Under Subnet Mask, type 255.255.255.0. Leave the other three fields blank and click ok to exit the open dialog boxes. Do this whole procedure on the other computer, however, on the second computer, type 192.168.1.101 instead of 192.168.1.100. The two computers are now networked
