How can I configure my Freeway to perform Unix-style “syslog”ing?
The syslogd daemon isn’t started by default on a Freeway, but you can start it by putting a few lines into your boot configuration file. One thing to watch out for, though: if you keep your Freeway powered up for extended periods, you should check occasionally to make sure the disk partition doesn’t fill up with log data (or also set up the newsyslog daemon). There should be several megabytes available in the partition which contains /var/log/, so you ought to be okay for several weeks of uptime, at least, if you put your log files there — and you can run the “df /var/log” command occasionally to tell you how much free space is left.
