How can I collect a point feature (like a sign) in the midst of featuring a line (like a road) or an area?

Use the nested point feature. While featuring a line or area, press [F2](PNT) in the Featuring Screen. Then you name the nested point and attach attributes and values. After you store the nested point a message comes up asking whether you want to continue featuring the line or area.
