How can I change values or correct errors on a record after the record is released to DHEC?
A birth certificate should be released to SC DHEC when all required fields are resolved. If a delivering facility determines that an error(s) has been made on a birth certificate released by their facility and the delivering facility desires to correct the error(s), contact with SC DHEC is required. The birth certificate staff must contact the Registration Section at (803) 898 3620, (803) 898 3623, or (803) 898 3622. The record will be electronically transferred back to the delivering facility so mistakes can be corrected. Once a record is transferred back to the delivering facility, the birth record can be corrected and re-released to SC DHEC.
