How can i build stamina for long distance races…?

However, distance runners know that running long distances is not a matter of speed but endurance and body management. Since you are a 3000 m runner, you are used to just running as hard as you can for about 20 minutes or so. That type of running is more like running at 90% of your top speed for as long as you can and then giving a sprint at the end. The marathon record time is 2 hr 4 min. That’s a ridiculous split of 4 min 44 sec / mile. I can’t even run 1 mile at that time. For rest of us mortals, we will be running between a 3 – 4 hour marathon (6′ 52″ – 9′ 9″ splits).
