How can i build stamina for long distance races…?
Your question is more varied than you imagine. There are stamina for shorter races (like 3000 meters) and then there’s stamina for a marathon / half-marathon. Since I’m assuming that you want to run your best time in the marathon, I’ll focus on that. For most non-runners, the idea of running 1 mile, let alone 26.2 seems like A LOT of work. However, distance runners know that running long distances is not a matter of speed but endurance and body management. Since you are a 3000 m runner, you are used to just running as hard as you can for about 20 minutes or so. That type of running is more like running at 90% of your top speed for as long as you can and then giving a sprint at the end. The marathon record time is 2 hr 4 min. That’s a ridiculous split of 4 min 44 sec / mile. I can’t even run 1 mile at that time. For rest of us mortals, we will be running between a 3 – 4 hour marathon (6′ 52″ – 9′ 9″ splits). When you are running for that long period of time, it’s not about speed but abo
